Five Reasons Why Your Air Conditioner Isn't Cooling Your Home

When it’s a searing summer day in Ontario, nothing is worse than figuring out your AC isn’t operating the way it is supposed to. The last thing you should have to do is request HVAC help. But your air conditioner is an incredibly involved system, so it can be hard to find out what’s causing the problem all alone.

That’s why Stan's Heating, Inc created this handbook to help you figure out what might be happening with your AC. Here, you’ll uncover a couple usual explanations for why your home is feeling uncomfortable. And even though a few of these are simple DIY projects, you could have to find an expert for HVAC repair.

And if you do, Stan's Heating, Inc is here for you. Here are five reasons why your air conditioner may not be cooling your residence in Ontario.

1. Your System Settings May Be Wrong

Everyone sets their thermostat a touch differently to suit their particular preferences. Despite that, a number of families make the misstep of setting their thermostat to “On” rather than “Auto.” Under this setting, the fan in your air conditioner will continue to blow even once you’ve attained your set temperature.

This can come off like your vents are distributing room temperature air, when in fact it’s simply utilizing the fan on a more regular basis than necessary. Adjust this setting and see if things are different.

2. Your Cooling System Needs a Good Cleaning

There are two principal areas to examine for dirt or dust accumulation when your home comfort system doesn’t appear to be operating well.

Before anything else, take a look at your system’s filter. If you don’t switch out your filter routinely, accumulated dirt can make it more challenging for air to travel through and cool your space. If your filter is noticeably dirty or dusty, it’s likely time for a substitute. (And for best operation, you have to change it about once every three months at least.)

If your filter appears clean, go to your outdoor unit. Make sure there’s a reasonable amount of space around it and clear away plants or debris close by. This part of your system discharges the heat from within your rooms. If the coils outside are clogged, you won’t be feeling cool indoors.

We advise setting professional air conditioner maintenance each year to keep your equipment operating properly and to keep your warranty valid.

3. Your AC is Leaking Refrigerant

Refrigerant is the material that chills the air in your space. It goes between your internal and outside units to soak up and let out heat, to help your home keep the right temperature. If there is a break along that system, you won’t be cool again until you book professional air conditioning repair.

Signs of a refrigerant leak include a drop in chilled air, higher utility charges, frozen evaporator coils and unusual hissing noises coming from your system.

If you suspect refrigerant might be leaking, call Stan's Heating, Inc for air conditioner repair as soon as possible. Refrigerant can also be detrimental to your family’s health.

4. One or More Elements Need to Be Replaced

Your AC includes a couple important parts. These include the blower, evaporator coils, compressor, fan, condenser coils and expansion valve. If one part is broken, your home comfort will suffer.

Our Stan's Heating, Inc pros are well-trained and knowledged in HVAC. They can help you locate and mend any problem.

5. Your Whole System Needs to Be Upgraded

If your air conditioner is upward of 10 years old, it could likely be a good time to research new air conditioner installation. As your system puts on the years, it simply won’t work as well as it did in the beginning. And it could be making your house less comfortable.

If your HVAC unit is newer but still isn’t cooling things off, it could be the wrong size for your house. HVAC systems are made in different sizes. An air conditioner that’s not big enough simply can’t cool a space the way an accurately sized HVAC can.
